Meet the Craziest People at Swim

Posted December 8, 2015 by swimcreative

In less than a year, seven Swim’rs will be show up at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon starting line. Some of them could be called Speedy Gonzales, and some of them go by director of Netflix marathoning. No matter their level, they’re racing on June 18, 2016. Meet the new names you’ll be shouting at the finish line.

Why do you run?

It’s a mini, challenging vacation from reality. I’m not sure why I wanted to start running, but once I crossed the finish line of my first half marathon, I was addicted.

What does your training plan look like?

I typically run three days a week and cross-train the other days—except Sundays. Sundays are are meant to be lazy.

Are you using any apps or wearables for training?

Fitbit for walking and cross-training, Garmin for running and Strava for biking. I also love using the Charity Miles app because all miles count for $0.25 donated to a charity of choice! Let’s see if I can add another to the list.

Why did you start running?

“To burn off the crazy” as the saying goes. I am a pretty strong Type-A person, and running helps me calm down and clear my mind. Plus the health benefits are pretty awesome—increased energy, endurance and some great endorphin highs.

What are you most excited about for Grandma’s Marathon Weekend?

Running with my fellow Swim’rs! Also, the finish is great because there are so many people, there’s great food, and, well…you’re DONE. I also really like the expo and all the freebies and running gear.

Why did you start running?

I wanted to do something that scared me when I turned 25. A half marathon seemed to fit the bill. Plus, it means I have to get in shape. Always a challenge when you work a desk job.

Why do you want to start running?

I don’t have experience with consistent long-distance running and I want to challenge myself.

Two short runs during the week and one long run on the weekend. My short runs are starting at 2-3 miles and long runs are 4-5 miles. They will increase as we get closer to the race.

The atmosphere of the city (and the beer tents).

    1. Patrice is busy that weekend.

  2. What about Dave “Salami” Sadowski ?

  3. Kevin: Nope. Not happening. Brushing your teeth is good for you. Brushing your teeth for 26.2 minutes will make your gums bleed.
