It’s August, which means introducing our next Swim’r of The Month is in order.

By day, Jenna Kowaleski is one of our account managers. By night, she’s reading, writing, or hanging out with her adorable dog, Ellie.

Why advertising?

I originally went to the U of M hoping to get into the School of Journalism, which I did, but on my first day of my first class (in 2007) I was told by the professor that by the time I graduated journalism as a profession wouldn’t exist anymore. So I reassessed. PR and Advertising was also offered through the School of Journalism, so instead of starting over I just shifted my focus.

My first jobs out of school weren’t closely related to advertising, but as I watched what was going on around me, seeing what roles positive (and negative) messaging plays in our society, I wanted to loop back into it to influence how brands represent themselves, and what messages we’re putting out into the world. Specifically, in Duluth I’m also in love with our local businesses and what people are trying to accomplish here, and I wanted to be a part of this region’s momentum.

What’s the best part of your job?

Working with people. The variety. Very few days are spent entirely at my desk.

Who’s your dream client?

A book publishing company or bookstore. There would be so much variety and so many different fun and interesting ways to promote upcoming books. And I’d always have another great book on the list.

Share something the team might not know about you.

I love writing. I’m hoping to publish a novel this fall.

Hobbies outside of work?

Writing, walking on the beach with my dog, reading and agate hunting with my husband.

I don’t have one. I’m not that into music. I do listen to Marketplace almost every day though.
